Abstract

This study examines the juristic and historical significance of two foundational Hanafi works: Al-Mukhtasar al-Quduri and Al-Ikhtiyar li Ta'lil al-Mukhtar. Al-Mukhtasar al-Quduri, written in the 5th century AH, presents the essential rulings of the Hanafi school in a concise and systematic manner. It became one of the principal foundational texts of Hanafi jurisprudence and has remained central in legal education, fatwa writing, and judicial practice.

Al-Ikhtiyar li Ta'lil al-Mukhtar, composed in the 7th century AH, is an analytical commentary that explains the reasoning behind selected rulings. It discusses legal principles, differences of opinion, and juristic justification. The study concludes that Al-Mukhtasar provides the textual foundation of Hanafi law, while Al-Ikhtiyar offers analytical depth and legal reasoning. Together, these works played a major role in the development and transmission of Hanafi jurisprudence and remain reliable references today.
