Abstract

The genre of ‘Naat’ has engaged a highly important position in the history of Islamic literature, on account of its religious reverence it also has literary, social, conceptual and ideological importance. On the basis of a direct connection with the holy Quran and Sunnah and being a luminous and radiant chapter of the noble life of the Last Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), Muslims from all over  the world have always expressed special interest and adoration at every level for this sacred art of poetry in all ages and periods, that is why an abundant treasure of ‘Naatiya poetry’ is found in Urdu literpature like Arabic and Persian. Ghazal, Nazam, Qaseeda, Rubai, Masnavi and besides prolong texts on the Praises of the Prophet (Mawlid un Nabi) and Ascension of the Holy Prophet (Miraj un Nabi), there exists uncountable expressions on the poetic biographies of the Holy Prophet by many writers are a valuable assets in Urdu Literature. Due to these innumerable expressions of writings there is a deviation from the required authentic standards and directives of Islamic Law (shariah) overpowered by exaggeration, embellishment, enthusiastic love or ignorant mysticism and while trying to acquire universality they have distracted from the principle of “be insane in the presence of Lord be vigilantly respectful in the presence of Mustafa”, and combined freshness with harshness and defectiveness even the topics of subjective narrations are woven in poetry, in this way under the guise of admiration consciously or unconsciously poets of ‘Naat’ have committed a serious mistake of speaking falsehoods, and even going against the instructions of the Holy Prophet who is the most appraised one for all the worlds. Which is equivalent of making religion into non-religion and is not at all allowed according to the moral and Islamic codes for any Muslim. Moreover these type of self-created and fake subjects after interweaving in poetry are presented in the society as hadith and noble life of the Holy Prophet and create misinformation and misunderstanding on ideological, moral and conceptual levels and shake the very foundation of ideology of the whole society. Therefore Imams of Islamic Law and hadith have provided a healing cure for this ailment through their extreme hard work and research, in the light of which we can differentiate between right and wrong and save our religious, intellectual and social environment from the ignorance of pollution. Current research thesis is a literary document comprised on the analysis, study, research and criticism about the ‘Urdu Naatiya’ poetry.
