The Novel “Neeli Bar”: A Review
Abstract
Tahira Iqbal is a unique fiction writer and novelist of Urdu literature. His novel “Neeli Bar” holds an important place in the history of novel writing. The villages between the rivers Ravi and Satluj are called the “Neeli Bar” region. This region includes the cities of Sahiwal, Okara, Deepalpur, Pakpattan, Arifwala, Chicha Watni, Vehari and Borewala. In the novel, the harsh weather and intense sun of this region are mentioned and the effects of this harsh weather on the lives of the local settlers are also examined. The female charactes are stronger than the men; they are sincere in their emotions and feelings and are also victims of the cruel tricks of this system. This novel is not only a great narrative of Punjab but also a political, social, economic and religious history of Pakistan. This article examines the above mentioned aspects of this novel in detail.
