Abstract
The Tradition of Tasawuf was actually a way to understand the subtle realities of life. It was a system of thinking and practicing a way of life and worship which transcended the dogmas and narrow rituals of different religions. It explains the ultimate realities of life, existence and the God in a way which also accommodated the religious norms of Islam. A large number of Khanqahs came into existence which helps the disciples to follow the path of Irfan, or oneness with the ultimate reality. This tradition also permeated in the poetry of the times since its suited the untraditional thinking of the poets. In Urdu Poetry since its beginning to the present times has been a favoured vehicle of Sufi and Mystical ideas and Ideals. All great Urdu poets form Wali to Iqbal have been expressing Sufi philosophy in their poetry. This research paper attempts to delineate this tradition.
