The contemporary meanings of Meer's Poetry
Abstract
An essential attribute of classical literature includes its capacity to incorporate and cater for temporal requirements and ever changing trends. This very trait of classical literature gives it its perpetual relevance in any society. Meer Taqi Meer's poetry is replete with such quality as for as Urdu poetry is concerned. Two centuries ago, this great poet had, undoubtedly, been a metaphor for its agrarian civilization, whereas this is a post-industrial society we breathe in today but Meer is equally important for us. There is a need to know how the poet, having crossed such huge temporal sassiers, still maintains a relevance with todays' word of ours and how he is a contemporary sans temporal progression. This article is an effort to reveal this very secret.
