Abstract
Jafer Tahir was a great poet of Pakistan. He won fame in the field of ode(ghazal), poems (nazam), cantos, encomium (qaseeda) and epicedium (mersia). His ode has romantic inclinations. He expressed nature and dispostition in his ode(ghazal). His poems are beautiful manifestation of sensitiveness, passion and imagination. His poems are also populous with national emotionalism and patriotism. His cantos are beautiful addition in Urdu literature. These cantos conisist of national heros and different cantries of the world. Cantos are Jafer`s great memorable work and innovation. He wrote encomium(qaseeda) for religious purposes. These encomiums contain love and devotion for Holy Prophet Mohammad and his holy family. His epicedium (marsia) is description of grief of holy prophet's family.
