Abstract
Folk songs are the asset of any language. These are inherited and remembered by an oral tradition. Punjabi language is rich for folk songs. Some folk songs belong to a specific area. Mahiya is unique form of folk song that is sung, enjoyed and understood throughout Punjab. Under the influence of Mahiya the other languages like Persian, Urdu, Sindhi Arabic and German have also experimented with mahiya. The present essay will help to understand the influence of Punjabi mahiya as other languages. The researcher can also benefit from this effort. more over it will bring to high light the poets of these languages, who are doing creative efforts with this form.
