Analytical Study of Ibn-e-Hazam's Methodological Rationale in al-Mohalla

Abstract

The famous Andalus scholar Abu Mu╒ammad ‘Al┘ bin A╒mad bin ╓azam al-╙┐hir┘’s book “al-Moḥallā” is not only considered the foundation but also, it is the centre of comparative Isl┐mic law. No book can be useful unless its author's methodology is known. Ibn-e-╓azam “al-Moḥallā” has been popular among knowledge seekers of all the ages because of its discussion on fiqh. However, this is also above board that this book has not been availed in the true sense. The reason might be its methodology which has not properly been interpreted. In this brief article, a comprehensive methodological analysis of “al-Moḥallā” has been presented. In this article, after a brief introduction of “al-Moḥallā” its methodology has been depicted. Some aspects have particularly been mentioned in the methodology; e.g, to what extent has Ibn-e-╓azam reasoned from ╓ad┘th, Ijm┐‘ & logic! In what way the opinion of the opponent has been negated so that the reader may not find any difficulty in the comprehension of the book: particularly the student of Isl┐mic Fiqh who presents the analysis of comparison & contrast.
