Shaykh Shihāb al-Dīn ‘Umar Suhrawardī’s Inferences of Mystic Practices from Prophetic Traditions

Abstract

Shariat and Tariqat are not separate from one another.Thy are actually two sides of a same picture.Like the Sharia,Tariqat is also based totally on the teachings of the Qur'an and Hadith.Mystics,lovers of Tariqat and sufis have proved the matters and teachings of Tasawwaf by the Qur'an and prophetic Ahadith.They have proved this thises by giving arguments from the Qur'an and Ahadith.Shaikh Shahab-ul-din Suhrawardi,one of the pioneers of the school of  suhrawardia(Silsala-e-Suhrawardia),has also expressed the mystic thoughts in detail in his book named "Awaraf-al-ma'arif".He has proved all mystic thoughts and teachings of Tasawwaf through the help of the Ahadith and Sunnah.The actions which are being practised by sufis and mystics i.e to be absorbed to the idea of Shaikh (spiritual teacher),solitude,meditation for a specific period(chilla kashi)etc, all have been proved by the traditions of the Holy Prophet(peace be upon him).Moreover,in Ahadith,its reward(if someone practises them) is also expressed in detail.So,the actions,teachings and thoughts of mysticism are also proved by the Holy Qur'an and Ahadith.
