Abstract
In exegetical discussions, those key sciences are included which not only help in apprehending the meanings of the Qur’ānic words but also their divine objectives. The commentaries written in early periods used to infer from these sciences at relevant places and they were described as well according to the need. Afterwards, when these sciences were at a stage of compilation, exclusive books were used to be written on these exegetical sciences till the time a trend of compiling them in one unit as a discipline started. Among all literary endeavors, the most novel and distinctive one was of Majid al-Din Ferozabādī. Many important Qur’ānic Sciences were assembled with detailed description in his exceptional book “Baṣā’ir dhawī Tamyīz” comprised of six volumes. One part of the book comprises of those details of the Qur’ānic chapters, from Al-Fātiḥa till Al-Nās, which mentions the introduction of every chapter; its names; the number of verses, words and letters in it; positioning of its verses; the allegories and verses of abrogation in it; its objectives and lastly its virtues. In this article, a specialized study of surah Al-Fātiḥa and Al-Baqarah has been opted to discuss in detail the above mentioned aspects of the book. It enlightens the general methodology of this particular part of the book which distinguishes it among other books written on the subject of Qur’ānic Sciences.
