Abstract

Education plays a vital role in the welfare and sustainable development of any society. From the excellent example of the first revelation which started with the chosen word اقرا which means “read”, we can understand the status of education and disapproval of ignorance in Islamic society. Holy Prophet (PBUH) replaced the darkness of ignorance with the light of knowledge not only for the Arabs but for the whole world. Now, it is incumbent upon a modern welfare state that it creates an education system that caters to its religious and moral; economic and social; emotional and other needs. This education system should have such qualities that once a person completes his studies, besides being knowledgeable, he becomes an active citizen who utilizes all his abilities in the betterment and development of mankind. Instead of having different education systems for various classes of society, there should be only one education system in a welfare state. This education system needs to be inclusive and comprehensive, and it should give equal opportunities to the rich and the poor.
