Abstract

Polygamy is one of the impugnments on Islam put by the Europeans, and many of them have unsuccessfully tried to challenge Islamic dignity and status in this issue. Some orientalists consider that only Islam is the religion which permits its followers to have more than one wife and it was not practiced before, whereas it is recorded in history that the early Christians were polygamous and there is not a single tradition both in Christian history and the Bible that the Jesus would forbade polygyny. The Europeans left polygamy but adopted homosexuality and gay marriage which resulted in form of ethical decline.
