Analytical Study of Common Names of The Prophet(PBUH) &The Qurān

Abstract

 A name signifies one’s personality, traits, characters and individuality etc. Real names are given at birth and attributed names are given by others. Abundant and plenty of names are significant to most important and religious personalities. Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) is one of the most important and sophisticated personality that ever lived. He (ﷺ) is known by many honorary names including most famous names i.e. Muhammad (ﷺ) and Ahmad (ﷺ). The focus of this study is honorary names of the last prophet of Allah, Hazrat Muhammad (ﷺ). This study analyzed the common names used for Holy Quran and Holy Prophet. The Prophet’s ( ) ﷺ names that are cited in the Holy Quran and Hadiths are representing His ( ) ﷺ attributes and honorary names. Many prose works have been written on this topic but this work is unique in such a way that only focused on Holy Quran and Hadiths.The names of the Prophet (ﷺ) are exceeded to thousand, and some of them are mentioned either in the Holy Quran or in Hadiths. Even some names are a part of the Allah’s Name “Asma al-Husna” and other Prophets names. In Islamic literary traditions, Names and Attributes of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) are praiseworthy to many literatures. Even in the Holy Quran, Allah ( جلالہ ّجل) says; “He who followed the pathway of Prophet, indeed obeyed Allah’s path.”Besides this ‘Thirty’ verses of the Holy Quran contain the names and attributes of the Quran. In a nutshell names and attributes expressed the inner as well as hidden qualities so as the Prophet of Allah honored.
