Abstract

Abu al Hasan Sayyed Ali Hajvery RA well known as Data Ganj Bakhsh is the very first august Sufi writer of the sub continent. Being a memorable and exquisite combination of Shariah and Tareeqah of early fifth of Hijrah, his teachings have always been followed in all subsequent eras. His teachings can be attributed as firstly, to his books and secondly, to his enormous spiritual strength and attraction; later is evident by his glorious shrine, which is a source of tranquility for the seekers. Both these factors have still maintained their significance as an authentic reference. This is highly ironic that out of his all books only Kash al Mahjoob could have been saved. This made the authenticity of this book doubtful near some scholars. However, evidences provided within the text of this book as well as few other circumstantial evidences prove the authenticity of the book by eliminating these doubts.The subject matter of Kashf al Mahjoob is still having the same significance, as it would have been at the time of its writing. The eternal value of its topics and discussions in the context of compilation of Sufi literature is really the mark of excellence which despite centuries after still has maintained its significance. A major portion of this book gives introduction of great Sufies up to the beginning of fifth century after Hijrah along with their ideologies. Sufi narrations, their different incidents and principles of Sufism given in this book are still very charming near mystics and act as reference for Sufi writings.Hazrat Ali Hajveri RA has determined exquisitely the levels and chains of Sufis and critically rectified the flaws, marched in Sufism. He exposed the reality of so called Sufis and warned the mystics from sensual threats. His preaching was simply matchless. In current era, selfishness is prevailing everywhere and eliminating tolerance among mankind. In such circumstances it is imperative to highlight his teachings and spread peace by acquainting the mischief nations, with real moral values. As he is described as great pioneer mystic preacher of Islam in sub continent, so Lahore where his shrine situated is regarded as center of Sufism.
