A STUDY OF PECULIARITIES (KHAṢAIṢ) OF THE HOLY PROPHET MUHAMMAD (ﷺ)IN THE LIGHT OF AL-JĀMI LI-AḤKĀM-AL-QURĀN BY AL-QURṬUBI

Abstract

Qurān is primary and the most authentic source of the Sirah of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) while exegesis complement it by linking between true meaning of the revelation and reliable traditions regarding Sirah. Although sirah writers have always been utilizing exegesis of the Qurān as conventional source yet studying about life of the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) through sole lens of exegesis authors is one of the latest trends of Sirah writing.   Imam Abu Abdullah Muḥammad bin Aḥmed al-Qurṭubi (671 AH) authored his most famous and well-known exegesis with special focus on deriving commandments of Islamic Sharia.  His book “al-Jāmi li-Aḥkām-al-Qurān” has a lot of info about other branches of human and Islamic knowledge including Sirah. This article highlights peculiarities (Khaṣaiṣ) of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) discussed in said exegesis. Through this study light is thrown upon author’s life, his works and the methodology he used with reference to the value of his sources. Collection of material, its comparison with original sources, authentication, and analysis of the opinion of worthy author has been adopted as methodology to conduct this study. The author has elaborated several of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) over other Prophets sent by Almighty Allah.
