ANALYTICAL STUDY OF KHAWAJA MOEEN-UDDIN KASHMIRī’S UNPUBLISHED PERSIAN EXEGESIS “SHARḤ-UL-QURĀN”
Abstract
Khawaja Moeen uddin Kashmirī (d 1675/1086) is one of the prominent Islamic scholars during the Mughal Empire (1586 to 1753) in Kashmir. He was son of well-known saint of Naqshbandi chain of Islamic mysticism Khawaja Khawand Naqashband (d 1052 AH) and pupil of Shaikh Abdul Ḥaq(d1052AH) Muḥadith of Delhi. His literary work comprises of Qurānic exegesis, Ḥadīth, Jurisprudence, Taṣawwuf, biography, etc. both in Arabic and Persian languages. He wrote Sharḥ-ul-Qurān a detailed Tafsīr on complete Holy Qurān in Persian language. Sharḥ-ul-Qurān is an unpublished Tafsīr in Persian Language preserved as manuscript. The study is an endeavor to explore the said Tafsīr and to make an analytical study of its author’s methodology and style in it. Different examples have been taken from the book to elaborate the qualities of the book. This study clears the fact that the writer has explained the matters in addressing style and raising different questions in simple way.
