Abstract

Woman is considered as the main pillar of the society. Before Islam, woman had no dignity. She was not given any kind of rights. Islam has granted them rights and obligations. The rights and responsibilities of women are equal to those of men but they are not necessarily identical. As a matter of fact, it is impossible to have absolute equality between men and women. This difference is understandable because men and women are different physiologically and psychologically. Islam has established some obligations for women that suit their nature, give them full security and protect them against disgraceful circumstances. With the passage of time, the woman started having problems again. So, she started fighting for her rights. This article highlights women’s rights in the light of Sharia and legal point of view. It discusses whether the rights are given to them in accordance with their nature or not? The study gives the overview of bill for the protection of human rights passed in 2006 and 2016 in National Assembly of Pakistan. There are many good things in the bill for the upgradation of the women status but there are also some objections on it.
