The Mediating Role of Compassion in the Relationship between Servant Leadership and Job Performance: An Empirical Analysis of Higher Education Institutes of Quetta City

Abstract

Leadership acts as a catalyst in the performance of organizations. Especially, the leadership approaches which are based on ethics have produced prominent results for the betterment of organizations. This study also adds value to literature of examining the mediating role of compassion in the relationship between servant leadership and job performance. The study was conducted in five Universities of Quetta, Pakistan. This study comprises of 150 pairs of followers and their leaders.  The results of bootstrapping showed that servant leadership has a positive impact on job performance and compassion. Similarly, compassion partially mediated the relationship between servant leadership and job performance. Furthermore, the study’s contribution to the field of knowledge and organizations; limitations, and directions for future research have been discussed.
